The first thing to do when you or a loved one is arrested is to get out of jail. Usually, on minor offenses, a person is released on their own recognizance. If the offense was more serious, the judge, will set bail.

Bail is based on several factors, so make sure the judge is aware of any good points you may have.

1. The defendant’s work record;
2. Family ties to the community;
3. Residency in the community; and
4. Past criminal record.

Once bail is set, one option is to call a bail bondsman to secure a bail bond for your release. There are other options, but getting a bail bond is the least expensive option since the cost is 1/10th of the set bail.
